Responsive Facade | Design Research

Project Summary

Building with minds of their own

  • Project: Infotech Park
  • Project Category: Design Research (Academic)
  • School: SRM School Of Architecture & Interior Design
  • University: SRM University, Chennai

The design expands by creating a building that reflects the statement of technological expression. The design should satiate the purposes of spatial flexibility, energy efficiency and visual impact.

RESPONSIVE GLASS FACADE: The walls are angles on eastern and western sides to maintain a comfortable temperature. The glass facades are angled and the angles change with the assistance of the sensors installed on them, based on the amount of sunlight falling on the glass, which keeps the temperature perfect and gives a different look to the façade, throughout the day.

Every floor is arranged with 4 panels of glass, horizontally and vertically, with a maximum of 2 panels which are separated in order to increase the efficiency of the façade. The façade arranges with a ratio of 1:3 and 3:1 patterns, where only 1 panel is facing the sun angle directly and the other 3 face against the angle, and vice versa. The northern and southern facade arrangement vary based on the sun angle in different seasons.
