Skewed Vibe | Residence
Project Summary
A spacious, well ventilated house with minimalistic unique features.
A uniquely angled plot in a dense Tripunithura neighborhood, Ernakulam, inspired by the client’s brief for a “spacious, well-ventilated house with minimalistic, unique features,” led to the creation of a skewed, monotone home filled with character. The 5-cent east-facing plot is bordered by a vacant west side, a closely built house to the south, and a rear passage on the north. The design maximizes the buildable area while respecting the plot’s geometry.
The home is organized into three main bays. Zigzag entry steps in the central bay lead to a double-height foyer, flanked by the living room on the right. This space features a split-level ceiling and large east-facing opening, filtered through a landscaped strip and perforated semi-concrete wall for morning light. The northern bay on the ground floor includes this living room and a guest bedroom with attached bath. Interiors are minimalist, with monochrome tones and custom furniture. The guest room combines wood, grey laminates, pale yellow wallpaper, and light curtains.
A dining area with integrated pooja space connects the northern and southern bays. The southern bay includes the kitchen and master bedroom with attached toilet. The kitchen enjoys ample daylight via east-facing windows, and interiors echo the monochromatic palette. The master bedroom features a long wardrobe, study area, and blue-accented wallpaper with patterned curtains. A compact library nestles under the staircase on the west of the central bay.
Upstairs, the central bay has a small lounge overlooking the foyer and living room. It connects to the north and south wings. The northern bay holds a bedroom with attached bath and a split ceiling that continues from below, furnished with wood-grain laminates and green-yellow accents.
The southern bay on the first floor contains another bedroom with bath and a balcony. Interiors mirror the master bedroom below but contrast with purple-blue tones. The east- and south-facing balcony, partially screened by angled vertical louvers and glass, provides a semi-open seating space.
