Eminence Architects [Research + Design] is an architecture and interior design studio based in Tripunithura, Ernakulam, Kerala. Founded in 2015 by Ar. Surag Viswanathan Iyer, our studio is driven by a passion for thoughtful, original, and contextually rooted design. From a compact yet dynamic workspace, we continuously experiment with form, flow, and function crafting designs that range from the subtly complex to the strikingly unique.
At Eminence, we believe that architecture should be tailored, timeless, and responsive with no two buildings should ever be the same. Every project is treated as a fresh opportunity to create something truly bespoke—tailored to its site, purpose, and people. While our aesthetic often leans towards simplicity and minimalism, our process is anything but basic. Beneath every design lies a carefully woven complexity of lines and ideas. We aim to design spaces that feel like they naturally belong—because when architecture is in harmony with its environment, it fosters a genuine sense of belonging for its users.
Driven by architectural innovation, our work is shaped by a multidisciplinary approach. We integrate diverse elements such as sustainable design strategies, digital technologies, landscape architecture, resource management, and interior design to create spaces that are both functional and meaningful.

Ar.Surag Viswanathan Iyer
B.Arch, MAA
Surag has graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from SRM School of Architecture and Interior Design, SRM University, Chennai in 2011. He has procured Master’s degree in Advanced Architecture from Iaac (Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia), Barcelona, Spain in 2013, where he was exposed to use of digital processes and development of technological materials with respect to architecture. His research of Self-Sufficient building – “Soundscape”, where sound acts as the building to generate power, received a lot of appreciation; was done under the guidance of Enric-Ruiz-Geli (Cloud 9, Barcelona). He has interned at InForm Architects, Bangalore in 2009 and began his professional career as Jr. Architect in 2011 at the same office, where he gained exposure to different types of architecture and interior projects of varied scale such as residences, budget townships, villas etc. He has worked as a freelancer from 2013 and successfully completed various projects of varied categories such as individual residences, residence renovations, multi-stories residences, residential interiors, retail design, office interiors etc., prior to starting the firm in 2015. He was also active in architecture education, as visiting faculty at Designer Institute of Interior Design, Ernakulam, Kerala, India.

Surag is the founder and principal architect of the firm, established in 2015. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from SRM University, Chennai (2011), and a Master’s in Advanced Architecture from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC), Barcelona (2013). His time at IAAC shaped his interest in digital design and innovative materials, culminating in his research project Soundscape, a self-sufficient building concept where sound is harnessed to generate energy, mentored by renowned architect Enric Ruiz-Geli of Cloud 9, Barcelona. He began his architectural journey at InForm Architects, Bangalore, where he interned in 2009 and later joined as a Junior Architect in 2011. There, he gained hands-on experience across a wide range of projects including residences, villas, and budget townships. Since 2013, Surag has worked independently, successfully delivering numerous projects spanning private residences, renovations, multi-story buildings, retail spaces, and office interiors. Surag brings a balanced approach of creative vision, technical expertise, and contextual design thinking to every project the firm undertakes.
